The events of the last thirty years (1953-1983) have not, of course, passed through the filters of history. Therefore, any retrospective on this today has, as I have previously emphasized, the character of a chronicle rather than historical writing.

If I decide to record them, it is because I have been, on one hand, a firsthand witness of what happened in our political arena, from my professional journalistic perspective (but also from my participation in the activities of the Left all these years), and on the other hand, out of a sense of duty as a politically engaged intellectual for half a century to take a stand on what has occurred, and to express directly and candidly my personal judgment on the situations, events, and individuals that have determined the social and political future of our homeland.
