The Book of Enoch is a religious text that contains unique material regarding the fall of angels, the origin of demons, the necessity of the Flood, and the future rewards of the righteous during the reign of the Messiah.
According to its title and content, it is attributed to Enoch, the great-grandfather of Noah, but it was actually written between the 2nd century BCE and the 1st century CE in Palestine. Although it was considered a sacred text by many Jews and Christians in the early centuries AD, it was not included in the official canons of sacred books of rabbinic Judaism and the Christian Church, resulting in its gradual disappearance from the Western world.
However, it remained a sacred text for the Ethiopian Church and for the Jews of Ethiopia, and was rediscovered by Westerners in the 18th century. Since then, there have been several translations from the Ethiopic, with the most notable being that of Robert Charles in 1906, which is included in this edition.
