Description

The third augmented and improved edition of the book "Art. I see – I know – I feel" serves as an introduction to the History and Theory of Art. In the first part of the book, the reader is equipped with knowledge about drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, and architecture. The techniques and thematic categories are examined over time, allowing for a broad outline of the periods of art history and their characteristics, familiarizing the reader with the names of creators, the titles and contents of works, as well as a specialized terminology. In addition to the additions made to the theoretical part of the book, the new edition has been enriched with 115 new color images. In the second part of the new edition, which includes selected and translated texts by the author from esteemed art historians, five additional texts have been added. The aim is to form a general picture of artistic achievements from the Middle Ages to the present day, while simultaneously understanding the theoretical framework that each researcher applies, with a clear dual benefit for the reader. The goal of the book is primarily educational. It seeks to fill a gap in Greek literature regarding the introductory course of the Art History curriculum at the University. However, it could be disconnected from academic use and become more broadly educational and informative, including an audience that is not indifferent to artistic creation. Alkis Charalambidis is an emeritus professor of Art History in the Department of History and Archaeology at the Faculty of Philosophy of A.U.TH.
