The Orthodox icon is a complex phenomenon. It is theology and a visual language, and this is because it consists of the hypostatic form of the depicted and the appropriate painting style through which this form is presented and exists.

This complexity interprets the simultaneous stability and mutability of the image, which in terms of its form does not change but transforms over time in its technique.

In this book, we present how the theology of the Church Fathers forms the foundation of iconographic art and how the theoretical formulation of the image of Christ defines the function and role of the visual element, the constituent elements of which we also analyze.
