The book "Coaching Kids" is a proposal for those involved with developmental ages, suggesting exercises to create a thought process and application based on communication, perception, and decision-making by the young players themselves, utilizing their experiences in training and games.
It contains a sample exercise list from U6 to U14, with exercises that have action, realism, goals, and motivation, according to the characteristics of the ages, training areas, and long-term planning directions.
The ten commandments for the development of the young player suggested by "Coaching Kids" should be based on:
- In the introductory stage, on the freedom of movement and actions through varied stimuli.
- On creating street-like conditions, exercises with all kinds of obstacles, and forced different movements, not necessarily football-related, to help with the overall coordination of children, up to the U10 age group.
- On 1vs1 as a primary element of individual tactical training.
- On individual extra training at home or, if possible, in a free form.
- On the rotation of positions in training and games until U12.
- On the importance of biological age, so that children, when they can, compete with older kids.
- On decision-making by the children themselves, so the exercise list in organized academies should take care of this.
- On the 4vs4 game as the basis for training and practice.
- On individual extra training in addition to the team-academy, for those aged U14 and above.
- On the "Life Lessons" that football as a team sport can provide throughout this journey from the age of 4 to the completion of this process, which means for a lifetime!
The book aspires to provide thought stimuli for every coach because it is important for each of us to walk a creative path, evolving ourselves, our athletes, and football. Knowledge and experiences should be shared!
