The Taurus Mine (Bouga Maden), the southernmost Cappadocian settlement founded by Pontic metallurgists from Chaldia, was one of the most important metallurgical settlements in Anatolia during the 19th century. Today, it is an insignificant small village consisting of approximately 40 families of exchanged Turks. This monograph, the final result of a laborious research effort, which was based on the critical evaluation and utilization of relevant literature and its creative synthesis with unpublished archival material, as well as written and oral testimonies, is on the one hand a substantial step towards as complete a knowledge as possible of the history and organization of the settlement in question and on the other hand contributes to the history of Greek settlements in Asia Minor and specifically the metallurgical ones. Its purpose is to remind the few remaining elderly Bouga Maden residents of the "unforgettable homeland" and to keep its memory alive for future generations.
