Summary
The social conditions that have developed in recent decades within the Greek context, such as significant demographic changes, the ongoing economic crisis, increased migratory flows, and multicultural classrooms, place intercultural education at the center of interest. The discussion around intercultural education has already started from the mid-20th century in the Western world and continues to evolve, often reflecting broader socio-political developments.
This book aspires to be part of this discussion. A series of topics approach the policy and practice of intercultural education at both a national and European level, shedding light on these issues through different theoretical lenses. However, a common denominator is the recognition of the need to cultivate intercultural understanding and cooperation, to establish a rule of law that enhances social cohesion, and to restructure the school institution according to the principles of an intercultural approach.
Ultimately, a major issue is with what policies and practices it will be possible to interact with other cultures, not just to recognize their existence.
