Although the book was published several years ago, the topic is always relevant, at least for those who have an open mind.

One of the most interesting books you can read, well-written and scientifically enlightening all the misunderstandings and conspiracy stories that we may have had as a civilization until then. A book that is an enemy of unhappiness

Wonderful, amazing book by a unique teacher! It is (if I'm not mistaken) the last book he wrote (or at least one of the last) when he, tired of the hypocrisy of the modern world, wanted to leave his personal mark, fighting against the foolishness that was circulating then, and still circulates now.
Extremely easy to read and very interesting. Don't overlook it!

No matter how many words we say about Carl Sagan, they are not enough... A pioneer in simplifying the mysteries of the universe so that they can be understood by all people. So that they can understand the importance and uniqueness of Earth, simply because it is the only home we have... An enemy of pseudoscience and charlatans who exploit the pain or naivety of the world to make money.

Perhaps the most important work of the great professor of astronomy and astrophysics, Carl Sagan. One of the greatest popularizers of Science.

Carl Sagan was a scientist astronomer who always wanted to see humanity thinking and learning. This book should be required reading and analysis in high school by all students. It clearly depicts the many personal and social benefits that have been derived from the application of scientific methods in every aspect of our thinking. The methods are the important part, the conclusions are just the icing on the cake. It explores the dangers of unchecked baseless ideologies and how objectivity and admiration are necessary in analyzing things. Almost no topic is left unexamined. I really can't recommend this book enough as it is a light in the darkness, as science is called in the title.

Description & Specifications

We have created a culture whose most significant elements are essentially based on science and technology. However, we have simultaneously organized everything around us in such a way that almost no one understands science and technology. This is the ideal recipe for our future destruction!

We may stray a little from time to time, but sooner or later, a combustible mixture of ignorance and power will explode right before our eyes. I worry, especially now, in the transition from the 2nd to the 3rd millennium, because pseudo-science and superstitions will become more and more alluring year after year, the song of the absurd sirens more melodious and seductive.

Under what conditions do we create such grim darkness around us? When racial prejudices are raised, in times of deprivation or wars, during periods when our national self-esteem or courage is challenged, when we are anxious about the reduction of our living space or distracted from our true purpose, when fanaticism and ignorance blaze around us. It is then that the same obscurantist views, known from the distant past, try to take control.

The candle's flame wanes. The scant light flickers. Darkness spreads. The demons awaken.
