A young woman attempts to rob a bank. To escape capture, she enters a for-sale apartment and takes hostage those inside: the overly enthusiastic real estate agent, a couple of retirees renovating and selling apartments to fill the void in their marriage, two girls who disagree on everything but are preparing to bring a child into the world together, a cynical bank manager with suicidal tendencies, and an elderly woman suffering from loneliness.
The police surround the apartment, and as the tension escalates, hostages, the robber, and police begin to draw closer and discover that they have more in common than they could have imagined.
The new book by Fredrik Backman is an unpredictable, optimistic, and humorous novel about the power of forgiveness and hope, touching readers with its sensitivity and humanity.
“...Exquisite writing and a deep understanding of what truly matters in life... Fredrik Backman is one of the best and most interesting authors in the world... a literary giant who continues to grow.” WASHINGTON TIMES
“In all of [Backman’s] novels, his ability to articulate truths about human nature with a poignancy that stuns is evident.” KIRKUS REVIEWS
