Update (summer 2025) after firmware update. The volume on the center channel has been normalized and you no longer need to go into the web interface to increase the dB of that specific channel, it's enough to play between the values -3|3|+3. Deep settings still require a smartphone for the web settings because otherwise neither the remote control nor the TV help. Atmos is now better hidden since, even through passthrough, the amplifier seems to receive DD and simulates it with Atmos. If anyone has figured this out, let us know, but I don't think anyone will bother to put a bundle on the AV and watch Netflix by changing the source on their TV instead of doing it directly from the TV app; this on-off - select sources etc. is not practical for everyday use. If anyone has an idea about this, please update the questions.

(Original review) So, as an owner of the previous v685 and earlier the v475, I moved to the v6a and I'll start with the negatives. The first impression in hand is bad, because you realize that they've "stolen" 2 kilos of material from you since the new one is lighter. The plastic front under light looks like a black mess and needs to be covered with a film so it doesn't look like it has marks. The other covers are almost like playing cards, meaning if you unscrew one, the other can fall off into the void, and for me, it's obvious that every year I'll open it preventively because I have a pet at home. The menu, if you've learned the older Yamahas, this one will seem like a nightmare; really, without the app and the remote control, it's hard to operate advanced features just with the selection button on the front, while the IP interface menu is even harder. Also, you should know that during periods of proper pricing, the amplifier has dropped to €450 at a well-known store, but as things are, I don't think we'll see it below €550 again, and I'd say €550 is a lot because with a bit more you can get into the Aventage series. Most importantly, with Atmos, the volume drops sharply, meaning the dialogues are very low and the front/back explode with every effect, which is very cinematic but ultimately doesn't let you watch a movie with Atmos at low volume because you can't hear the conversations; so by increasing the volume, you wake up the neighbors during action scenes. You'll confirm this on many sites if you look it up, and that's why I kept the soundbar, because with Atmos its volume isn't affected, unlike AV receivers.

Moving on to the positives... And here it's a bomb of capabilities and information. Honestly, I don't know what the future holds for the next 5-10 years that could end my dependence on the v6a. The right entertainment center, streaming, and wireless audio. I was ready for the v4 but the 100w 8ohm finally convinced me to be patient and get the v6a. However, I think with €600-700 you can get good sound with Denon too, but if you get used to Yamaha it's hard to leave, because Yamaha's enemy is again Yamaha. Get it for the power, the sound, the online and wireless functions, the PS5 and HDMI 2.1. I find it hard to name a clear competitor because there are so many points of superiority! However, it's not worth investing in Atmos because it will disappoint you. If someone found the solution, then let them share it with us. I'm glad I kept my old one because my old one may not have had Atmos, but with DD+ the center speaker volume was just as you wanted and even let you overdo it

I have had the amplifier in my hands for 2 whole days and I have been using it extensively, in a positive way. Coming from an almost decade-old AV amplifier, the RX-V6A gave me a cultural shock. It has a large number of digital conveniences. Even larger is the number of network functions where it excels. Yamaha's free application, musiccast, praises the machine. Everything, and I mean everything, can be controlled easily through the mobile phone, and the amplifier's remote control is simply not needed.
The sound is very satisfactory, colored, full, and with good power.
It does not have many analog inputs, as it focuses more on the digital side.
7 HDMI inputs are more than enough to connect Blu-ray players, game consoles, etc.
In a few words, and without wanting to elaborate further, for its price, it is fan-tas-tic.

I would also like to add the excellent service provided by Yamaha's dealership in Greece, from all perspectives.
The amplifier went for service as there was a problem with one of its functions. This problem was present in all amplifiers, from any brand, manufactured in 2020 and using a specific circuit that was faulty. In a communication I had with the service, they provided me with the necessary information, and after a few hours, I had my amplifier back with a replaced motherboard, and it works perfectly!
