The PLA filament Satin Shine 2.85 mm 500 g is a premium quality product manufactured in the Netherlands. PLA (polylactic acid) is one of the oldest and most commonly used materials in the 3D printing community, mainly due to its beneficial characteristics as a flexible and environmentally friendly thermoplastic.

PLA is biodegradable and can be easily blended with other components to affect its final properties, such as flexibility and metallic appearance. The colorless form of Real PLA has a translucent cream color, and the printing temperature ranges between 195 - 205 degrees (depending on the characteristics of the hot end). The darker shades of Real may require a few additional degrees of temperature due to the coloring process.

The filament should extrude smoothly and appear slightly glossy. PLA is denser and sturdier than ABS, but it is more brittle and prone to cracking under high loads. It is also less resistant to external factors (UV light and water) compared to other common thermoplastics (see Nylon, ABS, and PETG).

PLA can print well on a thermal surface using Blue Painters or Kapton tape, as well as most 3D printing adhesives. For convenience, it is recommended to use sprays like 3DLAC on a glass base. A low bed temperature between 50 - 60 degrees further reduces the chance of warping and makes it easier to remove the final print once the print surface has cooled.
