Until now, all Violin Methods that have been published have had the same flaw: they progress too quickly and do not explain with enough clarity.
Having examined the Method of N. LAOUREUX, I saw that he tried to correct these mistakes and succeeded completely.
In his Preface, with a series of cleverly adapted movements, he teaches the student how to hold the violin and the bow in an absolutely correct manner. The first exercises with the bow are very well graded and very important for ensuring the flexibility of the right hand and very good sound quality. For the left hand, N. LAOUREUX starts with the first finger and makes it perform a wide variety of exercises, then he takes on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th fingers in the same way. Thus, while giving the student careful practical training, he avoids the monotony of the exercises.
The same method is followed throughout the lessons. New difficulties are always prepared by a series of practical exercises and end with a Study that contains a repetition of the technical points that have just been performed. The various exercises with the bow progress in easy steps and I am convinced that the student will understand the explanations even without the help of their teacher.
