‘The Master said, "If a man sets his heart on benevolence, he will be free from evil"’

The work "Analects" is a collection of the sayings of Confucius, gathered by his students shortly after his death in 497 B.C. These express a philosophy or moral code by which Confucius believed everyone should live. Upholding the ideals of wisdom, self-knowledge, courage, and love for fellow humans, he argued that the pursuit of virtue should be the supreme goal of every individual. Although following the Way, or the truth, may not yield immediate or material benefits, Confucius demonstrated that it can bring strong and lasting spiritual rewards.
