The HSK Standard Course has been developed under the auspices of Hanban, by the Beijing Language and Culture University Press and Chinese Testing International (CTI). Using material from the HSK tests, it is characterized by a humorous style, familiar themes, and scientific course design. It covers all levels of the HSK test with writing, content, and morphology corresponding to the assessment system. It is suitable for Confucius Institutes and other educational structures for teaching the Chinese language, as well as for self-taught students.

This series is divided into six levels corresponding to the HSK test, with one volume for Levels 1-3 and two volumes for Levels 4-6, totaling nine volumes. Each volume includes a student book, a workbook, and a teacher's booklet, making a total of 27 books. Volume 4A includes 10 lessons, covering approximately 300 words (half of the vocabulary for Level 4) and detailed explanations of 50 language points and 10 groups of similar phrases. Upon completion of this book, students will be able to hold discussions on various topics in Chinese and communicate comfortably with native speakers of the language.

The book is illustrated with many photos that correspond to the exam style and is printed in full color. It comes with an MP3 CD.
