Description

Description

The rules of the Inheritance Law of the Civil Code were formulated based on the preceding law and the foreign Codes that served as models for the Civil Code. Throughout the intervening period, theory and case law, as well as legislative amendments, shaped the vibrant Inheritance Law of our Country, adapted to the Greek reality and free from foreign influences.

This Inheritance Law is examined in the current work, which appears in its fourth edition. The author's goal is research based on the evaluative assessment of interests and the presentation of a dynamic system that will satisfy – to the extent possible – the needs of the theoretical researcher, the practical interpreter, and the student. This effort is accompanied by the hope that this goal may have been achieved. May the reader find, at least with the understanding that distinguishes him, that this hope has not remained merely a hope.

The formality that characterizes Inheritance Law – with the risk of it appearing as law of numerical operations and calculations – is compensated for during interpretation by the evaluation of interests, the search for the ratio of each individual regulation, and the formulation of a system of general principles. Diagrams, graphs, and examples make it easier to understand the structure and function of this part of the legal order.

The structure of the work follows the structure of the Handbook of Inheritance Law, which has been published and supplemented since 1980. The book incorporates, appropriately adapted, parts of monographs by the author on topics of Inheritance Law. With the extensive alphabetical index, the work becomes more user-friendly.
