Perhaps, then, the time has come today to dig and find beneath the soil the true Church. An excavation that, along with the revelation of the forgotten, will also allow the discovery of all those layers of earthworks that gradually and imperceptibly concealed the face of Orthodox Theology, highlighting in its place the fetishes of an ideological theology and Orthodoxy.
In other words, a theological idolatry, in the image and likeness of the corresponding pastoral idolatry, which draws, at times, from the total homogenization—the abolition of the multifaceted intimacy of the Gospel—and at other times from absolute individualism, the inability to ecclesialize any different and, by nature, subjective-substantial understanding. In such an endeavor, one can only start from the essential and crucial. From those, that is, which truly constitute the way of existence and which, therefore, if they are wounded, render the very existence questionable.
Without any doubt, therefore, the beginning must be made with the eternal themes of love and death, realities that define, if nothing else, the content of culture itself and are at the foundation of the "misunderstanding" that mortally wounds modern life and theology. Moreover, as Yiannis Tsarouchis very aptly noted, "the quality of a culture is distinguished by its attitude towards love and death."
