The natural environment of a country is an integral part of its natural heritage and must be protected to be handed over as untouched as possible to future generations. The preservation of the natural environment requires a good understanding of its components. One of the most basic components of the environment is the natural fauna and flora. Greece, due to a series of geographic, paleogeographic, historical, biogeographic, and geological reasons, possesses a rich and diverse fauna. Reptiles and amphibians are among the most important groups of Greek fauna, playing a significant ecological role in Greek ecosystems, even though these animals belong to the category of "repulsive" for many people. This book is not an exhaustive study of the amphibians and reptiles of Greece. The aim of the book is the quick identification of species that are endemic to our homeland. At the same time, for each species, basic information is provided, which enlightens the reader who loves the environment and wants to learn more about Greek nature. Additionally, one of the primary objectives of this book is to clarify the role of these animals in ecosystems and to dispel any prejudices that exist about them.
