The subject of this study is the identification of the main constants and variables in the evolution of the constitutional institutions of our country from the interwar period to the fall of the military junta in 1974. In the field of political institutions, this period is characterized by the distortion and double abolition of the parliamentary system and individual freedoms, which a long-standing liberal and democratic development had established by 1915.

Beyond the social, economic, and ideological factors of the successive crises of the examined period, particular emphasis is placed on the constitutional consequences of the two major divisions: the national schism during the interwar period and the civil war in the post-war era. The reasons that led to the deep distortion of the country’s constitutional institutions, their inability to adapt to the demands of the interventionist state of the 20th century, and finally, their open dissolution in 1936 and 1967 are mainly sought in these two schisms and the psychoses they caused.
