In his previous studies, the author has been deeply concerned not only with the management of the Cyprus issue in the past but also with how we should proceed into the future, what needs to be done for the reunification of the island, and what should be avoided to prevent the entrenchment or even the worsening of the existing negative situation.
Those who deal with the Cyprus problem focus on two main subjects: the historical aspect (what happened and why) and the political aspect that pertains to the present and future (that is, how the current data are analyzed and how we proceed and what we do in the future within the context of the dire situation Cyprus finds itself in, particularly the Greek Cypriot side).
These two aspects are closely connected, not only because the mistakes of the past must be studied and learned from but also because the possible approaches and choices for the future are inextricably linked to the actual data of the present, as it has evolved over time.
Today, it is not particularly beneficial to discuss older peace plans and our reactions to them. On the contrary, for the author, finding an agreement is of utmost importance, now and not later. Of course, the content of any agreement is of primary importance, but he believes that the current conditions make a solution necessary if we are to avoid the complete Turkification of a significant part of Cyprus.
