    The review concerns the SMV750CAI model.

    My experience with APC spans several decades, so the technical characteristics of the device were enough of a criterion for me to choose it. Fully sine wave output, so suitable even for powering audio equipment, sufficient real power (525Watts out of 750VA), short transfer time (2-6ms). Especially compared to other similarly priced devices from the same company which have 10ms transfer time and also do not have a sine wave output, the choice is what English speakers call a "no-brainer." I attributed the low price, before I got it in my hands, to possibly lower-cost plastic parts. Which doesn't particularly bother me. I take care of my machines.

    The initial impression and installation were as I am used to: the documents were there, the USB cable, a spare fuse plus another (obviously spare) part that I did not recognize and ultimately played no role, everything was easy and quick.

    But then the strange things started. The user experience was not as expected.

    The display is small, but I knew that from the photos. I thought I wouldn't mind so much since I was getting such a good device with a communication cable and software. I try to install the software, which comes on a CD, but since I no longer have a handy CD Reader, I decide to download it from the company's website. On the site, the software is marked as discontinued. It is not even available for download.

    I try to find another that is declared suitable for the device but I find nothing. After much effort, I manage to install it. The screen displays nonsense. Although Windows 11 recognizes it and shows the battery indicator in the System Tray at 100% charge, the application reports 0% charge. It only shows voltages and frequency but without the decimal point: 2358 Volts and 500 Hz with a temperature of 300 degrees Celsius. I wanted a power indication in Watts but it only shows a percentage, which seems to work.

    I uninstall it and load another piece of company software, one of the well-known ones that have worked for years and are provided with other APC device series, but it does not recognize it. That goes too, and I return to the discontinued one.

    I notice that about 2 minutes after I start my PC, the device complains and there are about 5-6 beeps, then it stops. I would like to know from the Event Log what this is, but there is no entry. In the following days, the issue escalates as 3-4 minutes after the beeps stop, the PC shuts down, obviously because I had set some protection parameters in the software, which, also obviously, does not understand that the device has stopped beeping because the power has not actually been interrupted or for whatever other reason it is bothered. I put a power meter in the device's power socket and the power consumed during the "beeps" is 110-140 Watts. Nothing to do with overload. I remove the software completely. The shutdown persists. It seems the command is given by the device (??? unrelated, unless it has to do with the USB connection), so I also unplug the USB cable and I can't even have the battery icon with the charge percentage in the System Tray.

    At this moment, the device is operating completely disconnected from my PC.
    In this state, as far as I understand, it is "ok."
    For this reason, and only this, I give it 3 stars.

    PS On a label stuck on the packaging box of the device it says "Not for Consumer Use in European Union"...
