By publishing "Recital", our intention is to cover pieces mainly for the lower levels of guitar (Preliminary, Lower) as well as for the higher levels (Middle, Upper). If we assume that studying in each of these levels lasts for three years, then each issue of this series corresponds in some way to one year.
Of course, no one is obliged to play or teach these specific pieces in a certain year, as the abilities and performance of students differ significantly. "Recital" does not include any studies, as the most important guitar studies have been published by the same Publishing House with the same pedagogical logic.
In particular, "Recital" No 1 and No 2, although not methods (like the rest of the Recital series), are intended to have an educational role, as the pieces they contain - placed pedagogically - can solve many of the technical problems that a young guitar student faces.
They consist of two parts. The first part includes pieces for solo guitar, while the second part includes arrangements of pieces and songs from all over the world, for two guitars. The music of Manos Hatzidakis plays a dominant role (especially in the duets of the second part). It is necessary for the younger generations to get to know, learn and love the work of the top composer of the 20th century.
The first guitar (melody) is almost always monophonic and is played by the student. The second, somewhat more difficult, is intended for the teacher or a more advanced student.
At the same time, it was deemed appropriate to include some biographical information about composers whose works are included in "Recital", in order to supplement the knowledge of the students. I want to thank Kostas Papagrigoriou and Harilaos Naka who boldly took on the risk of such an effort, as well as Dimitrios Doulias without whom such an ambitious publication could not be realized.
Thus, an idea that had become obsessive to me for many years, since the time I started teaching, was implemented.
