LEGO The Lord of the Rings is a game that follows the original story of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Players will experience the epic events of the story with the humorous and diverse gameplay of LEGO. The game begins with Frodo taking on the dangerous mission of destroying an ancient magical ring that threatens all that is good. Frodo must leave his peaceful home and embark on a perilous journey to Mount Doom, the only place where the ring can be destroyed.

During his journey, Frodo forms a Fellowship consisting of Aragorn, Gandalf, Legolas, Gimli, Boromir, and his Hobbit friends Sam, Merry, and Pippin. Players will relive the legend through LEGO minifigures, exploring Middle-earth, solving puzzles, and defeating enemies in their quest to destroy the ring.

The game features an open world where players can engage in epic battles with orcs, Uruk-hai, Balrog, the Witch-king, and other terrifying creatures. Players can also use the power of the Palantír, a seeing-stone, to move between different parts of the story. The characters of LEGO The Lord of the Rings come to life in a new way, with minifigures delivering dialogues from the movies.

Players can collect, combine, and create new items using Mithril, the most precious metal in Middle-earth, at the blacksmith's workshop. There are over 80 playable characters to discover and unlock, including Frodo, Aragorn, Gandalf, and many others. Players can also collect and use a variety of weapons and magical items, such as the Light of Eärendil, Elven rope, swords, and bows. The game features drop-in, drop-out capability, making it easy for family and friends to play together.
