If you want to remove wood, it may harden and "walk" away from the path you are working on the wood and go to your fingers and injure them. If possible, keep your fingers off the path of the wood you are removing and in the path of the spiral. Let them be lower so that if the spiral escapes, it does not "find" your fingers.
