The FricTest® is used for the assessment of symptomatic dermographism and the determination of activation thresholds. It is a certified, easy-to-use dermographometer for diagnosing patients with symptomatic dermographism (artificial urticaria), as well as for measuring their activation thresholds and disease activity.

In its latest version with four pins, the FricTest® 4.0 allows simultaneous skin stimulation at four different lengths, applying four different levels of provocation:

• I (the weakest)
• II
• III
• IV (the strongest)

To complete an examination, position the FricTest® vertically so that the four tips touch the skin and then stroke once, with moderate pressure across the width of the palmar forearm surface at a distance of approximately 60mm. A positive response is defined as the appearance of a palpable wheal greater than or equal to ≥ 3 millimeters in width, 10 minutes after provocation. Positive responses to provocation with the largest tip of the FricTest® (level IV) confirm the presence of symptomatic dermographism.
