Those who lived part of their life or at least their childhood in Albania before the 1990s cannot help but recognize themselves in this book, their childhood and youth, colors and events, gestures and scents, stories and amusing incidents, the language and various objects of the time, in short, our common and almost uniform past life, which has now irrevocably passed but has not been forgotten.

Demneri's work helps us recall it before another era takes its place – for instance, the present one, with its own characteristics and uniformity. The society of each era creates its own way of life, its own rules, customs, preferences, and ideals, its judgments and behaviors, in short, a specific worldview, which it expresses through the products it produces.

In a way, people become victims of what they create themselves. Whatever its nature, ideological, industrial, utopian, virtual, there comes a moment when the product inevitably exercises its tyranny over the society that created it. When this tyranny reaches its peak, people begin efforts to rid themselves of it. This is the moment of questioning and raising doubts.

But not for long. Because it is very difficult, almost impossible for a social entity to stop producing more and more. New products – new tyranny. The interim period between the two tyrannies is the most beautiful in the course of a society. It is a profound aspect of its silent rebellion.
