Description

Description

This second edition attempts a detailed analysis of the principles governing the Science of Ethology, a field that deals with the behavior of living organisms and the solutions to the problems they face in order to survive.

Initially, through separate chapters, the analysis of the basic principles related to the study of animal behavior, their specific characteristics, and the types of this behavior is undertaken. Special mention is made of research data concerning reflexes, orientation, learning, and behavioral ecology. Additionally, all the ways animals communicate through visual, auditory, olfactory, tactile, and electrical signals are described. Their feeding behavior is analyzed, as well as the methods of habitat selection for each animal individually.

Considering the complexity of this scientific field, it was deemed necessary to analyze broader scientific knowledge that is directly or indirectly related to this Science. A characteristic example is the understanding of biotic interactions that contribute to the interpretation of the ecology of symbiosis as well as the reasons why specific life strategies are adopted by various organisms. Furthermore, a separate chapter has been dedicated to human behavior from an evolutionary perspective.

Animal Ethology caters to students in the departments of biology and agronomy, aiming to provide the answers they need regarding the evolutionary behavior of animals, including humans.
