30 years of adventure and action by Georgios Stasinakis across five continents to make the diverse forms of the enormous work of the great Teacher, Nikos Kazantzakis, known; to share the enduring interest that he exerts, to keep alive the memory that resists time.
There were moments that marked him and that will remain unforgettable… From 1989 to 2019, Georgios Stasinakis, as president of the International Society of Friends of Nikos Kazantzakis, spoke at dozens of events in cities, neighborhoods, villages, schools, universities, cultural, philosophical and educational centers-institutes, churches, associations, prisons, which took place in 101 countries, developed and developing, free and non-free, all rich in history and culture.
In 2018, following the encouragement of his friends, he began writing this book as a sign of respect for the great Teacher and as a testimony of his wanderings across the five continents. In it, he nostalgically recalls the meetings with scholars and speakers, distinguished intellectuals, youth, Greeks of the Diaspora and Philhellenes, artists, visits to places nearly a century after Kazantzakis passed through them (Almaty, Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, Ashgabat, Baku, Tbilisi, Zurich, Lugano, Singapore, Gottesgab-Bozi Dar, Kyoto, Naxos, Stoupa, Nicosia, Ljubljana…) and many countries that were hearing about the great Cretan for the first time (Asia, Africa, Latin America).
Rarely has a scholar, like Georgios Stasinakis, selflessly dedicated a large part of his life worldwide to promoting the work of Nikos Kazantzakis and generally Greek Culture. His journey does not end here. His passion for the great Cretan remains undiminished, because, as Max Tau, a writer and devoted friend of Kazantzakis, writes: “Great ones never die. They only leave us. Kazantzakis will always live among us. It is our duty to revive his presence through our actions.”
