Description

“The role of counseling in nutrition at school” is an original study of the eating habits of students during school hours. The purpose of this work is to explore the position of counseling psychology in the educational role of teachers and to what extent counseling and pedagogical approaches can be harmonized.

At the same time, an effort is made to study in what ways a teacher can contribute not only to more effective learning in subjects related to their specialty but also to health education and specifically to the nutritional education of students.

Within this framework and using a special questionnaire, the views of students and teachers in schools in the city of Rhodes are explored regarding current nutritional issues, such as the teaching of a special nutrition subject and the operation of the school canteen.

The interview with the police director of the Dodecanese and the official data from inspections of school canteens, the on-site recording of products in school canteens in Rhodes, and the interviews with canteen managers contribute to triangulating the research and outline the situation prevailing in the school canteens of the island.

The originality of the research lies in the fact that it is a unique study on school canteens in Rhodes and the Dodecanese and is primary research examining the issue from different perspectives: those of teachers, students, school canteen managers, and the police director.

It constitutes a timely research as the eating habits of students are of great importance for their development and health, and the operational framework of school canteens has not changed in recent years.
