The architectural activity of Byzantium produced some of the most interesting religious buildings in the world architectural heritage, such as Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, the churches at the Monastery of Saint Luke in Boeotia, the cathedrals in the monasteries of Mount Athos, and the Palaiologan churches of Thessaloniki.
