Description

Sazerac Rye Whisky symbolizes the tradition and history of New Orleans. A rye whiskey dating back to the 1800s, around the time when saloons, disguised as coffee houses, began lining the streets of New Orleans. This is the whiskey that started it all.

Aromas of clove, vanilla, anise, and pepper. Subtle notes of candies, spices, and citrus fruits. The long finish is smooth with notes of licorice.

The whiskey is named after the Sazerac Coffee House in New Orleans, the birthplace of the famous and wonderful Sazerac cocktail. The Coffee House was acquired by Thomas H Handy, who also owned Peychaud’s Bitters. Initially, it sold bottles of the Sazerac cocktail, which was originally made with cognac. Today it is produced at the Buffalo Trace distillery from at least 51% rye, corn, and malted barley and is aged for at least 4 years.

Quite sweet and "herbal". Intense vanilla and barrel notes. You can taste milder flavors of oregano, nutmeg, and spices. Quite dry, worth trying at a good price, especially as an Old Fashioned, as it is known for how well it combines with the other ingredients of the oldest cocktail.
