Summary It is declared that there is no continuity between the ancient and modern Greeks, not even with those of the empire of Constantinople. Thus, in various seemingly scientific ways, the theory of Fallmerayer is revived. It was admittedly difficult for a continuous and stable presence of Greeks to exist under conditions of submission and slavery. However, the Greek world is a constant and dynamic presence and often prevails over the “ferocious conqueror” (ferum victorem), as Horace says.

The Greek element managed to overcome even the extreme Christian reactions and to give Christianity universal permeability. Imposing your spiritual and linguistic culture from within to those who officially dominate is the most undeniable testimony of Greek continuity. It is also claimed that every trace of Greekness was lost in the sea of the population elements that, as invaders, flooded the Greek space.

The presence of such and other peoples in the Hellenic space is undeniable. However, what escaped Fallmerayer and his current followers is this very important fact: none of these peoples became a power. On the contrary, over time, the Greek world assimilated the foreign elements.
