They are installed in hotels and rental rooms for controlling the power supply in the rooms.

They operate in conjunction with a GR-43 device. When the occupant leaves the room and removes the special magnetic key from the GR-43 slot, the power supply to the room is turned off after 60 seconds. If the key is reinserted into the slot, the power supply to the room is activated immediately.
