For me, then, and I will note that I did not wait for the pandemic to say this, the significance of the technological revolution for Greece lies primarily in one point, namely: in the disconnection of work and residence. You do not need to reside in the country where you work. I believe this will change all the parameters for our country, and that is because we may not have realized how attractive a country Greece is as a place of residence. And it is not just the natural beauty that makes it attractive, although this term includes several dimensions beyond the landscape that usually comes immediately to our minds. It is the climate which is ideal (provided, of course, that climate change does not negatively affect it), it is the light that truly has something unique, and finally, it is the combination of many different landscapes and ecosystems in very close proximity to each other and within very short distances from our large cities, especially Athens.

The book traverses the history of the modern Greek state, culminating in an ideal national scenario for the next decade. It is not, of course, a programmatic text, but rather logical assumptions. We follow the lines that started from the Revolution of 1821, unravel the thread that has formed along the axis of time, and try to see where they will lead. At the end of this journey, through pathologies, crises, rivalries, and conflicts, a positive scenario emerges for a country that will export happiness. It is also not a historical study. However, it is a meeting of historical narrative with political analysis.

Stathis Kalivas, one of the most significant political scientists in the world today, briefly and concisely analyzes the mechanisms that propelled historical and social evolution in modern Greece, gently dispelling naive and populist approaches that have fostered myths and stereotypes. What led to the Revolution of 1821? How did we reach the national schism? What wounds did the Civil War leave? What caused the crisis of 2010 and how much has Greece changed? What will our country be like in the 2030s?

This, I believe, is ultimately the essence and content of our national virtue that led the 1821 endeavor to success and differentiates us from other neighboring peoples who attempted to carry out similar ventures at that time. I would describe it as the "virtue of Odysseus," because it is based on elements such as intelligence, extroversion, a tendency towards adventure and risk, along with a significant dose of opportunism. Its essence is success despite the lack of power. The narrative of a human hero (and therefore a collective such as the nation) with particular intelligence, who ultimately manages to achieve much more than the means at his disposal allowed, I consider much more useful than the narrative of the wronged, betrayed, and defeated hero. Moreover, it has the advantage of being closer to historical truth.
