Symbolic accuracy with the advanced Computer Algebra System (CAS)

The TI-Nspire™ CX II CAS graphing calculator offers advanced mathematical capabilities beyond the basic model — ideal for educators and students who want to explore equations in symbolic form, seeing both exact and approximate solutions.

TI-Nspire CX II in the classroom

Enhancing the learning experience with CAS

  • Computer Algebra System (CAS): Processing algebraic expressions, solving equations symbolically, and displaying exact solutions — without rounding.
  • Interactive learning: Interaction with mathematics, observing cause/effect, and understanding connections.
  • Modern touchpad: Computer-style navigation with an on-screen cursor.
  • Document storage: Creating, editing, saving, and reviewing like on a computer.
  • Rechargeable battery: Stays charged from lessons up to exam day.

Approved for use in exams:

  • √ IB® Diploma Programme
  • √ AP® course exams
  • (with CAS disabled on the TI-Nspire™ CX II CAS)

Beyond Numbers

The TI-Nspire™ CX II CAS does everything the basic model does, but additionally offers symbolic mathematics and exact solutions for deeper understanding.

  • Powerful symbolic tools: equation solving, algebraic transformations, polynomial factorization, symbolic integration & differentiation.
  • Exact mathematical representation: fractions remain fractions, roots remain roots, and solutions are kept in symbolic form. You can link exact solutions with decimal approximations.

Interactive & engaging tools

  • Creation of different types of graphs
  • Connecting mathematics with real-life examples
  • Exploration of geometric concepts
  • Transforming data into discoveries
  • Personalized display of mathematics
  • Saving and reviewing tasks at any time

Distraction-free learning

The TI-Nspire™ CX II disconnects students from the internet and social media, keeping them focused on mathematics.

The power of Python built-in

Supports programming in Python, allowing students to write and execute code directly on the calculator. This way, they acquire programming skills and computational thinking through applications in mathematics, science, data analysis, and computer science.

Step-by-step learning

With TI-Nspire™ Tutorials, students and teachers can become familiar with all functions: basic operations, graphs, geometry, statistics, notes, spreadsheets, as well as teaching software.

It’s not like the Texas instrument calculator I’m used to. It’s too modernized and has so many features that the loading time to do anything is horrendous

Casio fx-991EX: Ideal for basic mathematical calculations and useful functions, but without advanced graphs or programming capabilities. TI-Nspire CX II CAS: The most powerful, ideal for advanced mathematics and scientific fields, with features that surpass the other two. It is more accurate and sophisticated, with CAS (Computer Algebra System) capabilities, allowing symbolic equation solving, computation of analytical expressions, and programming in Python. It supports graphs, equations, and functions that are much more advanced than the other calculators. For a professional or student who needs advanced features, the TI-Nspire CX II CAS is the best tool. If someone simply needs a good scientific calculator without too many extra features, the Casio fx-991EX is an excellent choice.

It is one of the best on the market (note that it is prohibited in exams). It performs symbolic calculations, as well as numerical calculations, and quite quickly. Derivatives, integrals, differential equations, matrices (eigenvalues, eigenvectors, LU, QR, scaling, but not Jordan), distributions and inverse distributions (e.g. normal distribution and inverse normal), Taylor series, limits, etc. It makes graphical representations (Cartesian, polar, parametric, scatter plot) and 3D (Cartesian and biparametric), although the 3D ones did not satisfy me. It is quite user-friendly, has a system with a mouse and keyboard, but does not have a touch screen. It is also rechargeable. Copy-paste is easy, and there is also an undo feature. It has its own programming language, and from what I understand, there are many ready-made programs available on the internet (e.g. it does not have Laplace transformation, but with the appropriate program, it can be done). The important thing is that you can create projects. For example, you can program it to solve a differential equation using the Euler method, save the results in matrices, and easily view them with a scatter plot, all in the same project, which consists of multiple pages. Everything in this calculator communicates with each other and can be used in the same project.
