Natural Sharpening Stone from Crete "Ladakono" 6000/8000 Grit. A natural knife sharpening stone from Crete, known as "ladakono". A product of traditional origin from Elounda, eastern Crete. The official name of the product is "Silicate", while it is more widely known as "ladakono".
It consists of 96-99% silicon dioxide (SiO2) in micro-crystalline form and is mined only in the mountains of Elounda. The sharpening quality ranges between 6,000-8,000 Grit, ranking it among the top in the world. As a sharpening lubricant, water or oil can be used, preferably fine machine oil (10W), from which the name "ladakono" derives. However, the stone also performs well with water mixed with regular dish detergent.
It is recommended to use the stone with soapy water. After use, rinse with water for the next time. If started with oil, it must continue only with oil. Changing from oil to water requires boiling the stone for 2-3 hours with a strong detergent.
