Natural Sharpening Stone from Crete Ladiakono 6000/8000 Grit. Natural knife sharpening stone from Crete (sharpening stone), known as 'ladiakono'. It is a famous traditional product from the Elounda area in eastern Crete.
The official name of the product is “Chert” and it is a natural non-metallic mineral consisting of 96-99% silicon dioxide (SiO2) in micro-crystalline form. The sharpening stone is extracted from the mountains of Elounda and is at the top of sharpening quality.
The sharpening quality ranges between 6,000-8,000 Grit, which ranks it highly. For lubrication during sharpening, water or oil can be used, preferably using fine machine oil (10ra), which is where the name "ladiakono" comes from. The stone has also proven to work well with soapy water.
After use, the stone is rinsed with water to be ready for the next use. If you start with oil, you should continue only with oil. If a change from oil to water is necessary, boiling the stone with detergent is required.
