It has been said that the central hero of this work was a real person. Specifically, it was said that the great writer embodies in his hero Verkhovenski, an extremist murderer, supposedly aiming to challenge the perceptions of the anarchists of his time, who, of course, represented a jumble of ideologists without any coherence. The truth for us is that the author had different visions when writing his work. We know that he saw the need for man to be reborn. He could not bear the idea that man should distance himself from God and the Christian faith. The ideological upheavals of the time left him essentially indifferent, but by analyzing the factor "man," he reached conclusions that inevitably led to the creation of heroes that could only represent "real" characteristic types.
This phenomenon is a rule. In every work, heroes, whether good or bad, represent some real presence; in other words, every hero of a novel has a "doppelgänger," if he is not literally a unique "prototype" of the creator author, but even in this case, the rule essentially remains unchallenged.
