Placement in a two-stage countertop system with this filter in the first stage. It gives a strange taste to the water, like plastic, at least in my system. I combine it with a second stage of activated carbon. After contacting the company I bought it from, who were very helpful, they advised me to try the water without this filter, using only the activated carbon to see if the resin filter creates this taste... doing so, the taste of the water with the activated carbon improved and the unpleasant taste disappeared...
As for the salts, it may do the job (time will tell, I've had it for 2 days, the kettle is fine, without any trace of salts).
