The Dermalight 80 Tester Phototoxicity Diagnostic Device is a compact unit for the safe determination of the minimum erythema dose of UV-B (MED) or the minimum phototoxic dose of UV-A (MPD).

The device is used to determine the minimum phototoxic dose MED or MPD, depending on the choice of light source (UV-B 311nm, UV-B broadband (280-365 nm), or UV-A (340-400 nm)).

The exposure unit is divided into ten test fields for light therapy. The dose in the different test fields results from the varying shading of the emerging ultraviolet radiation.

The minimum dose for inducing erythema from exposure to UVB radiation (MED) or the minimum dose of UVA radiation phototoxicity (MPD) serves to determine the optimal starting dose for ultraviolet radiation therapy.

Some people are sensitive to intense summer sunlight and manifest erythema, urticarial, or rashes. Some react to the sun in winter, while others react to indoor fluorescent lamps.

Most skin reactions are caused by ultraviolet radiation A (UVA - 340-400 nm) and ultraviolet radiation B (UVB 280–365nm) wavelengths. The visible light wavelength spectrum (400–800nm) is relatively harmless, except for people with photosensitivity conditions.

With the Dermalight 80 Tester Phototoxicity Diagnostic Device, one can accurately know the dose of UVB or UVA to which they can safely be exposed. The lowest dose that induces erythema on the skin is known as the Minimal Erythema Dose (MED) and quantifies exposure to Ultraviolet Radiation.

  • Approximately 500J/m2 for the UVC-UVB threshold (280 nm)
  • 250J/m2 for UVB (300nm)
  • 320kJ/m2 for UVA (360 nm) radiation

The delivery package includes the device, the control unit, storage case, UV protective glasses, and operating instructions in English.
