Selective post-emergence herbicide for the control of grass weeds that is absorbed by the leaves of the weeds, moves to the meristematic tissue where it acts by simultaneously inhibiting fatty acid biosynthesis and cell division.

Pinoxaden belongs to the new chemical group of phenylpyrazolins that act by inhibiting the action of the enzyme Acetyl-CoA-Carboxylase (ACCase), an essential enzyme for fatty acid biosynthesis.
