We usually avoid thinking about negative scenarios, but the possibility of facing a major or minor natural or man-made disaster always exists. Therefore, it is a good idea to learn how we can protect ourselves and deal with it through planned preparation. When disaster strikes, we may not have much time to act. Take some time to learn about the potential risks that may arise in the place where you live, get informed about your community's emergency response plans and the area's warning and evacuation procedures. And most importantly, take basic and reasonable precautions and learn what you can do in case of an emergency.
EMERGENCY PLANS Create a plan for your family.
• Find out which are the safe spots inside your home for each disaster you may face.
• Make sure all family members and children know how and when to call the police and fire department and place a paper with emergency numbers near your phones.
• Discuss what to do in case of a power outage and teach your loved ones how to shut off the main water, natural gas, and electricity supplies when necessary.
