The Phosphate Salt Reactor LR (Phosphate LR) HI93713-01 is a high-quality reactor that has been pre-determined, allowing users to achieve fast and accurate colorimetric measurements. The method is an adaptation of the ascorbic acid method in which the reaction between phosphate and the reactor causes a blue coloration in the sample. The color intensity is determined by a compatible photometer and the concentration of phosphates will be displayed in mg/L (ppm). These reactors are designed to be used with samples that have an expected phosphate range from 0.00 to 2.50 mg/L (ppm).

To give the reactor an accurate measurement, it is important for the sample to be clear. When placing the cell in the measurement cell, it must be dry on the outside and completely free of fingerprints, oil, or impurities. Wipe well with a lint-free cloth before insertion. Shaking the cell can create bubbles, causing higher readings. To obtain accurate measurements, remove these bubbles by rotating or lightly touching the cell. Do not let the reaction sample remain for a long period of time after adding the reactor as accuracy is lost. After reading, it is important to immediately discard the sample, otherwise the glass may be permanently contaminated.
