Description

Description

In this work, the term ecclesiastical property refers to the overall real estate – urban, agricultural, and forest-pasture in nature – that belongs to the various ecclesiastical non-profit legal entities or private legal entities (Monasteries, Churches, Metropolises, Sketes, Pilgrimages) that form the Orthodox Church in the Greek territory.

The fact that their number exceeds approximately ten thousand explains the status of the ecclesiastical organization as the third largest holder of property rights, after the State and Local Government Authorities.

The extremely complex legal issues arising from the administration and management of real estate of this magnitude, combined with the labyrinthine and sometimes outdated institutional framework governing it, justify the large number of legal disputes before courts throughout the country and the consequent production of a rich and extensive case law.

In this volume, we have gathered the most significant studies, opinions, and comments on judicial decisions that have been published in legal journals particularly over the past decade, with the thought that they will assist those involved in the administration, management, and protection of ecclesiastical property.
