For the past twenty years, musicians and researchers in Greece have shown particular interest in the musical traditions of the East, and even more so in the art music of our Eastern tradition.
However, there is a lack of a book/publication in Greek literature that discusses the theory of this music. The book "The Turkish Makam" by the renowned Turkish virtuoso Murat Aidinim presents sixty makams of the classical Turkish music tradition in an easy and understandable way.
This is a practical theoretical book, written clearly and in comprehensible language, which is not intended for a specialized or initiated readership.
The two CDs accompanying the publication include improvisations by the author, as well as compositions from the repertoire of classical Turkish music, which he performs himself.
The translation of this book into Greek will inspire musicians from different musical traditions and styles and will contribute to the understanding of modal music and the musical culture of the broader Eastern Mediterranean.
This book is the first to be translated into Greek on the theory of classical Turkish music, thus filling an important gap in Greek literature and, without a doubt, will serve as an essential educational tool for musicians and teachers.
