The work of Professor of Constitutional Law at Harvard University, Alan Dershowitz, undoubtedly represents a distinctive contribution to the effort to rationalize public discourse concerning the events within the confines of the Middle Eastern geopolitical complex, as well as beyond that.

Israel, as a bearer of foreign policy and a decisive shaper of power relations in the region, but also as a state characterized by a -unexpected for the Middle Eastern reality- democratic profile, is defined as a case study of an otherwise research effort on issues of international law and the action of academics and commentators from all backgrounds.

Furthermore, it provides high-quality lessons stemming from the context of Turkish hegemony in the Eastern Mediterranean and the accompanying high stakes of locating and exploiting hydrocarbon deposits in the Eastern Mediterranean within the Exclusive Economic Zone of the Republic of Cyprus, among others, under the auspices of the trilateral cooperation of Greece-Cyprus-Israel.

Also, as Dershowitz states: "The time has come to submit an active defense of Israel to the public sphere. In the book at hand, I present a defense of this kind - not of every policy or action of Israel, but of Israel's fundamental right to exist as a state, to protect its citizens from terrorism, and to defend its borders from aggressive adversaries."

I demonstrate that Israel has long been willing to accept the two-state solution, which is now included in the proposed Roadmap for Peace, and that on the contrary, the Arab leadership has been the one that persistently refuses to accept any Jewish state - regardless of its size - in those areas of Palestine where there is a Jewish population majority.

I also attempt to present a realistic picture of Israel, with all its shortcomings, as a thriving multiethnic democracy, similar in many respects to the United States, which offers all its citizens - Jews, Muslims, and Christians - much better opportunities and a way of life compared to any Arab or Islamic state."
