Description

Regarding the infamous term "racism" that globalization has imposed on our everyday vocabulary, there are references in all historical periods except for the period of Ottoman rule. And this is because, at that time, the victims of racism were the Christian inhabitants and only them. It is continually obscured that the Islamic state that replaced the Greek state did not care about the equality and civil rights of its inhabitants, as they were always divided into two classes based on their religion, with the class of infidels considered vastly inferior.

"Never has a disaster struck a nation as severely as Turkish slavery struck Greece. The Greeks were slaughtered or sold as slaves or forced to become Muslims. The Greek population diminished greatly. The Greek language was no longer spoken by the millions of people in Asia and Africa. Greek properties were confiscated. The best and most fertile lands became Turkish. The sultan donated them to military leaders. They were expected to live well from these and maintain an army. Some of these lands were also given to mosques and were named 'waqfs'. The Greeks were left to cultivate the lands of the Turks and receive from the income what was necessary for a miserable life. They could also cultivate the remote and barren mountainous regions. But even from these, they had to pay the 'tithe'. By a 'firman' from the sultan, slaves were prohibited from wearing luxurious clothing, having a handsome appearance, and noble stature. The entire Greek population was dressed in colored and uniform garments. In this way, the slave was distinguished from his master. Greeks never found justice. Turkish judges always favored Turks. They had no political rights. They were considered animals (raja) and were called infidels (giaour). With the slightest pretext, the notables and their bishops had to be executed to remain headless."
