The area that Greece borders with Albania and Fyrom once constituted a unified geographical and political space. However, since 1913, it has been separated by the Balkan Wars, which created the political situation that generally prevailed until 1990.
The prefectures of Kastoria, Florina, Bitola, and Prilep in Fyrom, as well as their local media and societies, were placed under surveillance. The main issue was to ascertain the relationships between the actors, namely the political and power holders, the media, the messages being conveyed, and the reactions of the public.
Moreover, whether there is or is in progress a convergence of the local societies, so that a willingness for rapprochement is visible on the horizon, regardless of the policies pursued by the states. Or to what extent do the borders still define different societies and different behaviors. And of course, the role that the media play in one direction or another...
