The pervasive despair and widespread anger of the Greek people in the face of a crisis that is constantly deepening is the starting point of this book. Its aim is to provide a different reading of the causes that led to the current state of affairs.
The argument developed is that, directly or indirectly, the evolution of today's Greek society is linked to the conditions that prevailed in post-civil war Greece. It was then that the particular characteristics emerged that allowed our country to promote its capitalist path based on specifications that deviated in many ways from European standards.
For a long period, the "middle" Greece was economically inflated without, at the same time, developing a stable local production base. When the country was integrated into the now dominant neoliberal and "anti-solidarity" European space, the contradictions between the external "systemic" imperatives and the survival needs of the people inevitably intensified.
Social wealth is being redistributed in favor of the already rich, the middle classes are disintegrating, the masses are impoverished, the social fabric is exploding, and traditional alliances and balances are being dismantled. "Solutions" may only arise as a result of radical political upheavals.
