The world theater has occasionally dealt with this type of person. Aristophanes mentions the misanthrope Timon of Athens (Lysistrata), who is described by Lucian in one of his narratives. Similarly, Menander refers to the misanthrope Knemon (The Dyskolos).
The Molière's Alceste takes his behavior to the extremes, denying not only his friends but also Célimène, with whom he is in love, ultimately ending up as a recluse and alone.
