Description

I support you with all my heart. But, if you push me to choose... between you and me... me.

We know where everything and everyone we love is, but many times we don't know where we stand. It's as if we have forgotten our place in the world. We can very quickly locate the position of others, the role they have in our lives, and sometimes we can even define the place we hold in the lives of others. However, we have forgotten what position we occupy in our own lives.

The road to self-actualization is continuous and difficult, reiterates Jorge Bucay in all his books. In this series of Roads, the popular Argentine psychiatrist provides us with maps of the area for everyone to choose their own path and walk at their own pace.

Happiness, he assures, is not just a right; it is also, in many ways, our obligation: a contract we have made with life.

THE ROAD OF ENCOUNTER is the second of a series of five volumes bearing the general title: Travel Leaves.

The book deals with human relationships, with topics such as:
    a) why we should have relationships and not live alone
    b) parent-child relationships
    c) romantic and marital relationships
    d) freedom and responsibility in relationships

What I didn't like is the separation of sex from relationships. It also doesn't believe at all in the evolution and the free choice of the individual to become who they want to be in order to have the relationships they want. It identifies men with women, not recognizing their differences as mentioned in other books like "Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus."

Based on Orthodox theology, abstaining from sexuality before marriage forces a person to fall in love, to change and evolve in order to be able to get married, and then their life is a continuous change from selfish love to selfless love.

According to Jorge, in a relationship, one person should freely accept the other person as they are, and if they change in some random direction, they separate or negotiate.

Based on what we find in speeches, books inside and outside the church, a person should abstain sexually, use all the energy that abstinence gives them to become worthy of love, meaning:
    a) to know oneself, what one wants and what one offers to the other person (e.g. book "Dating For Dummies")
    b) to be financially independent, capable of various jobs
    c) to have social relationships with relatives and friends
    d) to have interests and hobbies
and then to focus on finding a partner.
